We are partnering with our client, an innovator in the specialty packaging industry, who is looking for a business-minded Controller to lead its Corporate Accounting department. This leadership role will have ultimate responsibility for monthly and financial reporting, financial inventory management, annual audit coordination and accounting operations.

This position will offer a special opportunity to support the CFO and Leadership Team through projects, analyses, budgeting, strategy discussions, and provide an opportunity to be a part of major projects and company initiatives.

Position Responsibilities (Accounting):

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Vouchers invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Manages the reconciliation of cash disbursement accounts, customer accounts, payroll, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Assumes ownership for the preparation of month-end journal entries, and responsibility for the month-end close process.
  • Reviews monthly financials with the CFO, and with department leaders as needed.
  • Manages the verification and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are coded to the appropriate expense accounts.
  • Provides external auditors with support; gathers necessary account information and documents (PBCs) to perform annual audit, and external tax engagement.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures (GAAP).
  • Manages a small team of direct reports.

Position Responsibilities (Cross-Departmental):

  • Supports the CFO, and VP of Sales, and Manufacturing team with Product Costing, Margin Analysis, and Profitability by Customer and Product for current and potential business relationships.
  • Supports the CFO and Manufacturing team with detailed cost analyses, as needed.
  • Supports the CFO during annual Budgeting, Strategy discussions, Capital Expenditure proposals, and Board Meeting preparations.
  • A key resource to the CFO and Leadership Team of the business.

Ideal Experience Includes:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven knowledge in both financial and cost accounting treatments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with smaller to mid-sized ERP systems

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA required
  • Five plus years of relevant experience with prior mid-tier public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in either manufacturing with an emphasis in cost accounting or regional public accounting experience with manufacturing clients
